Rolling back the firmware

2024-02-22Last updated

If you have upgraded your Axis Powered by Genetec firmware, you can roll back to the previous version, but you must also reset your device to factory default and reconfigure it.

What you should know

  • There are two pieces of firmware that run on the Axis Powered by Genetec device:
    • Synergis™ Softwire app called firmware in Security Center
    • Axis firmware (AXIS OS), called platform in Security Center
You can upgrade them together as a package, or individually.
  • You can only roll back to the firmware version that came with the previous platform version it was packaged with.
  • After rolling back, you must reset to factory default, otherwise the firmware version is not rolled back, even though the display shows it is.
  • After resetting to factory default, you cannot roll back a second time, and you must reconfigure the following:
    • Administrator account used to configure the device
    • NTP server
    • AUX I/Os
    • Device hostname
    • Outputs' normal states
    • Reader settings
    • Audit logs retention period
    • Discovery port
    • Credential settings
    • Interlock settings

Procedure

  1. Sign in to the Axis Powered by Genetec device.
  2. Go to the Powered by Genetec page.
  3. Go through the configuration pages and write down the settings.
  4. Click Back to AXIS device interface.
  5. Click Maintenance () and then click Roll back.
The platform is rolled back to the previous version, but the firmware remains the same, even though the AXIS device interface shows that it has been rolled back. This process takes around 2 - 3 minutes.
  6. Click Factory default.
The firmware is rolled back to the version that was packaged with the platform version. All user accounts are deleted and all parameters are reset to their factory defaults.
  7. Sign in again to the Axis Powered by Genetec device.
You have to recreate the administrator user account.
  8. Reapply all the settings to their values before the factory default.
