Preparing to enroll Axis Powered by Genetec units

2024-04-11Last updated

Before enrolling an Axis Powered by Genetec unit in Security Center, there is a series of tasks that you must perform first.

What you should know

Note: You can perform all steps marked as "(Optional)" after the enrollment. However, performing them before can make your job easier.

Procedure

  1. Sign in to the Axis Powered by Genetec device.
  2. Configure the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server.
Important: Use the same NTP server as the one used for the Security Center servers and client workstations. This step is mandatory if the Axis Powered by Genetec unit is to be used on a cloud-hosted Security Center deployment, such as Security Center SaaS or Security Center SaaS Edition (Classic). Leave the Time zone setting at UTC.

For more information, see The device interface > System > Date and time in the Axis Powered by Genetec Help.

  3. If no NTP server is available, select the Custom data and time option.
This option synchronizes the unit's date and time with the date and time of the Access Manager server.
Note: If you change this setting, you must restart the unit for the change to take effect.
  4. (Optional) Configure the Discovery port for your Axis Powered by Genetec unit.
Important: This step is mandatory if you have multiple Access Manager roles on your system, and if you plan to enroll this unit on an Access Manager that does not use the default discovery port (2000).
  5. (Optional) Configure the permissions to use PIN and the maximum PIN length.
  6. (Optional) Configure the auxiliary I/Os as outputs.
Important: Auxiliary I/Os are configured as inputs by default. If you need to change them to outputs, do it now because it can only be changed from the AXIS device interface. You also need to restart the unit after making the change.

For more information, see The device interface > System > Accessories in the Axis Powered by Genetec Help or watch the following video.

  7. (Optional) Configure the outputs on your Axis Powered by Genetec unit.
  8. (Optional) Configure the readers connected to your Axis Powered by Genetec unit.
Best Practice: Readers are configured for OSDP by default. If your readers are using Wiegand, change them now so that they do not appear as offline after your unit has been enrolled.

After you finish

Enroll the Axis Powered by Genetec unit in Security Center.
